Founded by Stuart Ireland, we have grown from a small local ready mix concrete business into one of the largest concrete construction companies and general contractors in Northern Vermont.

Our Growth and Capabilities

Starting with a single batch plant in Burlington, S.D. Ireland now operates five state-of-the-art concrete batching facilities across Northern and Central Vermont. Our extensive fleet includes over 54 dump trucks, 36 mixers, 200 pickup trucks, and 300+ pieces of heavy construction equipment, enabling us to self-perform a wide range of services including site work, excavation, paving, and precast concrete manufacturing.

We employ 400 skilled workers, contributing significantly to the local economy. Our workforce’s dedication is exemplified by employees celebrating decades of service, reflecting the loyalty and expertise that define our company.

Our company is deeply committed to the Vermont community. We are proud of our annual St. Patrick’s Day concrete mixer parade, which raises funds for cancer research through the S.D. Ireland Cancer Research Fund-over $12 million raised to date. This reflects our dedication not just as a construction company but as a community partner.

A Multigenerational Family Business

S.D. Ireland remains a family-owned and operated business, led by the first, second and third generations of the Ireland family. Scott and Stephen Ireland continue the legacy started by Stuart and Peggy Ireland. Scott oversees every possible detail across all divisions, ensuring the company maintains its high standards of quality and service. Stephen is focused on concrete operations — you’ll often find him out in the field, hands-on and fully immersed in the work. Peggy is still a familiar presence in the office, sorting and delivering mail — she doesn’t miss a thing. Kim Ireland plays a vital role in the company’s day-to-day operations, overseeing key aspects of management and growing S.D. Ireland Properties. The third generation is deeply involved as well, with Chris, Dylan, Shea, and Sophie Ireland serving as key members of our team, contributing their talents across various departments. This family commitment ensures the company’s values of craftsmanship, integrity, and client satisfaction remain at the forefront.
